Background on Bill Buchanan

I have a great family… married since 1972 and we have 3 really great kids (actually, they’re not kids anymore; they’re very cool adults doing very cool things).

I study hand-to-hand combat from one of the best instructors in the world (Ex Delta Force, Tier 1 operator). I believe my friends think I’m nuts… I’m over 60 and the rest of the students are mostly around 25 and below. Some students are police officers, some military. The good news is that I don’t bruise nearly as much as I did the first year.

I’ve lived in Missouri, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Alabama, Germany, and Japan.

I have sailed around the Caribbean for a week or so each year but have shifted towards all inclusive resorts the last few years.

Many years ago I was considered an "expert" in Nuclear, Biological and Chemical warfare. Hopefully I will never need any of that knowledge.

Since 1998 I have worked for myself. Before that I worked at one of the largest advertising agencies in the world, a major food ingredient company, a large marketing research company and I spent 3 years as the only white guy in an all black advertising agency specializing in diversity campaigns.

All in all, a very interesting professional life.

During my career I have helped develop new products that have generated well over one billion dollars during their collective first years of introduction. The products I’ve helped develop and introduce can be found in over 90% of American homes.

I have provided executive coaching, advertising, marketing and marketing research services to both large corporations and entrepreneurs. My clients range from entrepreneurial start-ups to Fortune 30 corporations.

I’ve provided services to the insurance industry, food industry, auto industry, publishing industry, retail industry, financial services industry… in short, I may have missed an industry somewhere, but I can’t think of what it is.

I’ve also worked as an adjunct professor at a university.

I have an MBA from The University of Michigan with concentrations in marketing and finance.

My undergraduate degree includes majors in both chemistry and economics from Kent State University.

I also have certifications for Applied Methods in Marketing Research from The University of Michigan as well as training in personal & executive coaching technique from The Coaches Training Institute, and I am certified in the assessment and development of "EQ" (Emotional Intelligence) skills utilizing Q-Metrics’ methodology.

In my spare time I enjoy reasoning out thorny theological issues with my wife, and now I’m teaching myself about Web 2.0.

Bottom line: it’s been a great life and I’m looking forward to making it even better!
